ACHIEVE PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

ACHIEVE is a computer based competency program that serves the school and the community by providing substitute and/or make-up courses for students in need. This program is self-paced; students must complete a certain number of assignments in order to receive credit.

Students attend this program one or more periods per day, as a part of their regular school day. Progress reports are available upon request. Students and their parents must read and sign the program description form in order to ensure their understanding of the program and its requirements.

Please read the following carefully. By signing this form you will be held accountable for understanding and carrying out the requirements.

Students can receive only a full (one) or semester (half) credit for a course. No partial credit can be awarded. If a student fails to complete the required course load, he/she will receive no formal recognition for having attended the program.

Students will receive a credit for a course after having completed the required assignments, as designated by the instructor. These assignments may include, but are not limited to, computer lessons, tests, and/or additional readings. The instructor can at any time re-design the course to fit the needs of an individual student.

A student may remain in the program as long as his/her special needs so require. This privilege will be revoked and the student will not be allowed to re-enter the program, if the program requirements are not met.

Students are expected to attend classes regularly and on time. They are also expected to honor both the school code of conduct and the classroom rules.

EXCESSIVE ABSENTEEISM

If a student has 10 absences per any given quarter and makes no attempt to make up the time lost, his/her re-entering of the program will be jeopardized.

If a student has 10 excused absences, arrangements can be made to make-up the lost time. A student can make-up these days by coming in either after school or during lunch. The make-up time will be recorded and the appropriate number of absences will be taken off the student's record (only for the purposes of this program!).

NO DAYS can be officially made up for unexcused absences!

TARDY POLICY

A student is tardy if s/he is not in his/her assigned seat when the tardy bell rings. Running from the door towards the assigned seat will not be tolerated, since that is potentially dangerous to the student and/or the class. A student is therefore expected to enter the class on time and be ready to commence work at the class start time.

A detention will be assigned on the fourth tardy. Students are responsible for keeping track of their tardies and for timely serving of detentions. Failure to serve a detention will result in a double detention, and the next step is a discipline referral.

A tardy referral will be given on the fifth and every subsequent tardy.
